FA Cup: Chester boss Steve Burr wants home second-round tie

Chester manager Steve Burr hopes his side are given a home tie in the FA Cup second round after knocking out League Two's Southend United.

The trip to Essex followed an away win at Stockport in the fourth qualifying round with an away league game at Eastleigh in between.

The club have not previously reached round two since reforming in 2010.

"A home tie would be nice. We've had two long trips over the past couple of weeks," Burr told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"The travelling support was there, but if it is an away tie hopefully it's something near where they can all get to it."

The second-round draw takes place at 19:00 GMT on Monday.

Goals from Ben Heneghan and Craig Mahon, whose partner had twins the day before the game, secured Chester's 2-1 win at Roots Hall after Southend had equalised through Barry Corr's penalty.

Burr, 54, led Kidderminster Harriers to the third round of the FA Cup last season, but was sacked three days after his side drew 0-0 with League One side Peterborough United.

"I was delighted with the character we showed and I thought some of our football was good as well," Burr added.

"We had a little setback when we conceded the penalty, but again showed character in the second-half to get ourselves in front again. It was just a good all-round performance."
