Newcastle United have recalled young defender Remie Streete from his loan spell with Port Vale.

After allowing 20-year-old Streete to extend his deal until 4 January last week, the Premier League side have now cut it short to cover themselves following injury problems.

But it leaves Vale short of defenders for Saturday's home game with Rochdale.

Richard Duffy is suspended, having collected five bookings, as has fellow defender Ryan McGivern.

McGivern was unavailable anyway as he is on international duty with Northern Ireland.

But the loss of Duffy and now Streete has left Rob Page's side down to just four fit defenders this Saturday.

After coming on as a half-time substitute to make his league debut in a 3-0 home win over Orient, Streete started both Vale's last two games.
