England U21s beat Portugal to extend winning run to 11 games

Danny Ings has scored only one goal in all competitions for Burnley this season

England Under-21s beat Portugal 3-1 in a friendly at Turf Moor to extend their winning run to 11 games.

Burnley's Danny Ings opened the scoring on his home ground after six minutes, and Carl Jenkinson rifled in a second just before the break.

Portugal reduced the deficit three minutes after half-time through Bernardo Silva.

But England responded 10 minutes later when the lively Ings poked in his second from Nathan Redmond's low cross.

Gareth Southgate's side face Portugal in Group B at Euro 2015 next summer.

Norwich winger Redmond was particularly prominent, helping create the first goal with a fine pass to Tom Ince, who squared for Ings to finish from close range.

Portugal, who won every match in their qualifying group, briefly rallied but England reasserted their authority with a fine passing move which ended with Jenkinson firing in from Will Hughes's cross.

The visitors pulled a goal back when the excellent Silva slotted in from Bruma's pass, before Ings took his tally to four goals in six Under-21 games.

England face France in another friendly in Brest on Monday.
