Madine scored to give Coventry their first league away win of the season

Gary Madine earned Coventry City a first away win in League One this season with a second-half strike against Colchester United.

Madine bundled home from five yards with 16 minutes to go after goalkeeper Sam Walker saved from Danny Swanson.

Coventry could have been in front earlier had Frank Nouble not hit a tame effort at Walker from close range.

George Moncur shot just wide for Colchester and Sanchez Watt's free-kick was tipped over by Ryan Allsop.

Sky Blues manager Steven Pressley told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"I am delighted, not just to win, but with the manner of our win. We didn't simply grind out a 1-0 victory, we thoroughly deserved it.

"Let's not have another false dawn. We have to build on this, it's only one win. We have to put some consistency together.

"I'm delighted for our supporters who have travelled in their numbers and unfortunately, in recent months, they haven't been rewarded for that, so I'm really pleased that we could get them a win.

"There'll be no let-up. We'll work exceptionally hard this week to put together the kind of run that brings pride back to this football club."
