Wayne Rooney made 67 Premier League appearances for Everton scoring 15 goals

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright says he can envisage Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney wanting to end his playing days back at Goodison Park.

Rooney rose through the Everton ranks before joining United for £27m in 2004.

Asked whether he could ever see a day when Rooney, 29, could return to finish his career with the Toffees, Kenwright told BBC Radio 5 live: "Yes."

"He comes back to Goodison. He's an Evertonian and his family are. He is welcome to come back," Kenwright said.

"In all honesty, all I ever do is advise. I am not sidestepping the question. It is always going to be Roberto Martinez's choice."

Kenwright, 69, also hopes Everton boss Martinez will enjoy a tenure as long as his managerial predecessor David Moyes.

Moyes, who was named as Real Sociedad manager last week following his sacking at Manchester United in April, consistently guided the Toffees to finishes in the top half of the Premier League although he failed to win a single trophy during an 11-year stint on Merseyside.

"Roberto is an extraordinary man. I would be thrilled if he wanted to commit for the length of time David did," Kenwright added.
