Matt Smith left Leeds to join Fulham in the summer

League One leaders Bristol City have signed striker Matt Smith on loan from Fulham until 25 January.

Smith joined Fulham from Leeds in August, for a reported £500,000, but has struggled for game time after being sent off on his debut against Reading.

The 25-year-old will compete for a place at City with Kieran Agard, Aaron Wilbraham and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

"I've been looking for another striker able to take the weight off Wilbraham," said manager Steve Cotterill.

He told the club website:, external "We can't expect Aaron to play every game, week in, week out, especially with our progress in the cup competitions and subsequent midweek matches.

"We're pleased to have secured Matt's services until the end of January. He's a good lad, a powerful forward and someone who can share the load up front."

Smith started his career at Cheltenham before spells with Macclesfield and Oldham.
