Barnsley 0-0 Chester

Conference club Chester came close to shocking League One side Barnsley, earning a well-deserved replay and a place in Monday's third round draw.

City winger Craig Mahon's effort was tipped onto the bar by Reds keeper Ross Turnbull and Craig Hobson's header was cleared off the line by Joe Dudgeon.

Turnbull did well again to parry Mahon's drive and Kieran Charnock was denied by another goal-line clearance.

Jon Worsnop foiled Conor Hourihane with a smart save in the hosts' late rally.

Substitute Dale Jennings fired across the face of goal with no Tykes player close enough to capitalise and Kane Hemmings failed to find the net from close range when he should have scored for the home side.

Chester keeper Worsnop played almost the entire match with a cracked cheekbone, having also lost a tooth following an early first-half collision.

Chester keeper Jon Worsnop told BBC Radio Merseyside:

"We could have nicked it. We created the better goalscoring chances, to be honest. And some of the lads thought Hobby's chance in the first half.

"We have a great set of lads who worked really hard for one another. Ad it t was great to see Craig Mahon doing so well and managing to run Barnsley ragged. They looked terrified of him.

"We seemed to be the better team. If you were a neutral, you wouldn't have known who was in League One and who was in the Conference."
