FA Cup: Wrexham's Kevin Wilkin not underestimating Maidstone

Manager Kevin Wilkin says Wrexham will not underestimate Maidstone United in Saturday's FA Cup second round tie at the Racecourse.

Maidstone, second in the Isthmian League Premier Division, are two leagues below Conference side Wrexham.

But Wilkin is well aware Maidstone beat League Two Stevenage in a first round replay to earn a trip to Wrexham.

"You have to look at it and say it's a great opportunity for us but won't be underestimating Maidstone," he said.

"They're a strong side and you don't beat Stevenage if you're not.

"I appreciate they're two leagues below us but this is the beauty of the FA Cup and it can throw up results.

"Maidstone will fancy their chances coming here much the same as we fancy our chances at home.

"It makes for an interesting cup tie and it won't be easy."

Wrexham have overcome Conference rivals Macclesfield Town and Woking to reach the second round.

Victory against Maidstone would secure Wrexham place in Monday's third round draw and a possible tie against Premier League opposition.

"It's an incentive for both clubs," Wilkin added.

"It's about us applying ourselves on the day and I think that's the secret of the FA Cup - you have to apply yourself on that occasion to make sure you're in the next round."

Wrexham will be without midfielder Rob Evans who serves the first of a three match ban after losing his appeal against his red card in Tuesday's 0-0 draw at home to Bristol Rovers.

On-loan goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann is unavailable as parent club Stoke City do not want him cup-tied but defender James Pearson is available.
