Birmingham City: Morrison aiming to extend loan from Charlton

Morrison is set to return to Charlton in January.

Birmingham City's on-loan defender Michael Morrison says he would like to stay at St Andrew's after admitting his Charlton Athletic career looks over.

Morrison, 26, was boss Gary Rowett's first signing when he joined on an emergency two-month deal at the end of October.

"Charlton have made it clear that there's not really a future back there for me," Morrison told BBC WM 95.6.

"So I would like to [extend my stay], I've really enjoyed myself."

Morrison, who has made 150 appearances for the Addicks, was brought in by Rowett following the club's record 8-0 defeat by Bournemouth.

His arrival coincided with an upturn in form as Blues went five games unbeaten - their best run of the season.

Morrison continued: "I'd played at Charlton for so long and played so many games and it didn't really work out.

"As soon as the manager came in, I was sort of out, so I had to bide my time.

"When Gary got the job, I spoke to him and it happened really quickly.

"It's nice that he says he can trust me and it's good to know they've got the confidence in you to do a good job. I hope I've repaid him for that."

Blues' improvement on the field brought them 11 points from five matches and moved them four points clear of the relegation zone in the Championship.

Last Saturday's narrow defeat at Blackpool - managed by Rowett's predecessor at St Andrew's Lee Clark - ended that run and Morrison says the players are facing another test of their character against Reading on Saturday.

"We've got a big game next week and that's what were going to ask ourselves - to see what character we've got," he said.

"We've done it once, after losing to Bournemouth. We've got to show we've got fight after another defeat."
