The FA Cup second-round tie between MK Dons and Chesterfield is to be replayed after the Spireites fielded an ineligible player in the original game.

On-loan Wolves defender Georg Margreitter did not have written permission to appear in the match.

Chesterfield won 1-0 away at Stadium MK and would have travelled to Worcester City or Scunthorpe in the third round.

The replay, on a date yet to be decided by the Football Association, will be played to a finish in Milton Keynes.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We are very disappointed with the outcome of having to replay the game. We are astonished by the decision.

"We had full support from Wolves and from MK Dons but the FA did not see it that way. We did not try and deceive anyone.

"We felt we provided a professional case and I don't think we got a professional answer."

Margreitter, who returned to Wolves on Monday following the completion of his loan, made 14 appearances for the Spireites in all competitions, scoring once.

In recent seasons, Bury, external and Droylsden, external have both been kicked out of the FA Cup, in 2006 and 2008 respectively, for fielding ineligible players.

But Bradford City were reinstated on appeal two seasons ago, after initially being expelled from the competition for playing on-loan Newcastle defender Curtis Good in their 1-1 second-round draw with Brentford.

Worcester and Scunthorpe are due to play their second-round replay at Aggborough on Wednesday, 17 December.
