FA Cup: Cambridge United and Luton Town continue rivalry

Cambridge United boss Richard Money and his Luton Town counterpart John Still are looking forward to continuing the clubs' rivalry in the FA Cup.

Both sides won replays on Tuesday to advance to a third-round tie at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday, 3 January.

The U's and Hatters are fast becoming familiar with each other, having played eight times since September 2012.

Money says he expects a "rocking" atmosphere, while Still envisions a "great game".

Cambridge and Luton held on for 1-0 wins over Mansfield and Bury respectively to book their third-round meeting.

The teams are not traditional rivals, but their encounters during five years of playing non-league football together, and the relatively short distance of just 40 miles between them, has seen the fixture grow in intensity.

There is also the added frisson of Money having managed the Hatters between 2009 and 2011.

Both teams won promotion from the Conference last season and, having faced each other in the FA Cup and FA Trophy recently, they will have met 10 times in three years by the end of this season - 11 if they have to play a replay.

"Now we've got the big game to look forward to," Money told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire.

"The stadium will be rocking. Let's hope we can give the supporters a performance to be proud of.

"It was important to stay in the Cup, because it puts a bit of stardust on the season and keeps everyone happy and is something to look forward to."

And Still told BBC Three Counties Radio: "It shouldn't matter who we ended up against. But if you held a gun to my head, Cambridge is the better game. It's a great game.

"There's a little bit of feeling between the clubs. It's not far to travel and I'm looking forward to it. Roll on January, let's have another game and have some entertainment."
