Giuseppe Bellusci: Leeds United defender charged with misconduct

Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after allegedly using racist language towards Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome.

The pair clashed in the 1-1 draw between the clubs in October.

Bellusci, who has made 15 appearances since joining the Elland Road side from Serie B side Catania in the summer, has until 2 January to respond.

Leeds have announced that they intend to contest the charge.

They said in a statement: "The player has consistently made it clear to the club that he did not use racist language.

"The club understands that there is no third party evidence supporting Mr Jerome's allegation. Accordingly, the player will be contesting the charge."

Match referee Mark Clattenburg stopped play at the time to discuss Jerome's claims with him and then Leeds head coach Darko Milanic.

He gave Bellusci a warning following the incident before booking Jerome for a foul on the Italian moments later. Post-match statements were taken from both players.

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino, who is currently appealing against the Football League's decision to disqualify him from owning the club, said at the time that he would 'kick out' any of his players who were found to be racist.
