Neil Warnock: Crystal Palace boss wants to sign players in January

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock said he is trying to improve his squad and wants to sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The Eagles dropped into the bottom three in the Premier League after a 3-1 home defeat against Southampton.

Warnock's side have won one of their last 12 league matches and only scored twice in their last five games.

"We're not scoring enough goals. We're looking at a lot of players and we have made some offers," said Warnock.

"It is just about trying to get those deals over the line. We missed Marouane Chamakh and hopefully we can get a couple of players in to give us more options."

Palace fell behind to Sadio Mane's 17th-minute goal for Southampton but enjoyed their best period of play before half-time.

However, the match ended as a contest when the Saints scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half through Ryan Bertrand and Toby Alderweireld.

Scott Dann headed in a late consolation for Palace but Warnock was furious with his side's defending.

He added: "We are renowned for keeping a good defensive record, but you can't defend like that. Southampton did not have to work hard for their goals.

"Without criticising individuals, we're disappointed with all of the three goals. We have had words behind the scenes.

"We have to defend better and we have to score goals."

Crystal Palace have two away games next: at Warnock's former club QPR on 28 December and then against Aston Villa on 1 January.
