Colin Daniel scored his third goal of the season for Port Vale

Port Vale substitute Colin Daniel hit a 93rd-minute winning goal to condemn managerless Gillingham to defeat.

Daniel blasted a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Stuart Nelson from inside the area to earn the hosts the points.

Port Vale had gone ahead earlier on when Ben Williamson cut inside before finding the near-post bottom corner.

Listen to Vale's owner on BBC Radio Stoke

Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite will be Lee Blakeman's special guest on BBC Radio Stoke's new Sport at Six show this Monday evening (5 January, 18:00 BST).

Cody McDonald capitalised on Richard Duffy's mistake to level for the Gills, led by caretaker boss Andy Hessenthaler but Daniel claimed Vale's late winner.

That lifted Vale to eighth in League One, a point shy of the play-offs, while Gillingham, who sacked Peter Taylor on Wednesday, remain just two points clear of the drop zone.
