Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink: Burton boss rues Alex MacDonald injury

Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says the the loss of top scorer Alex MacDonald for two weeks could be a costly setback for his side.

The 24-year-old suffered a severe gash to his knee after colliding with an advertising board in their Boxing Day win against Tranmere.

The injury rules the Brewers' winger out of their 3 January meeting with League Two leaders Shrewsbury.

"Even two weeks is quite long for me to be without Alex," said Hasselbaink.

"He is a very important figure in our squad. Luckily, no tendon has been damaged," he told BBC Radio Derby.

Former Burnley man MacDonald has scored seven goals in 25 appearances for the Brewers so far this season.

Burton remain in the automatic promotion places, two spots behind Shrewsbury, despite having their meeting with Accrington Stanley postponed on Sunday because of a frozen pitch.
