Chelsea striker Islam Feruz trains with Cardiff City

Islam Feruz scored 18 goals in 28 games playing for Chelsea's under-21 side in the 2012/13 season

Chelsea striker Islam Feruz is training with Championship side Cardiff City this week ahead of a potential move.

The 19-year-old, born in Somalia, joined Chelsea in 2011 after rejecting a professional contract with Celtic.

Feruz scored six goals in eight games as Chelsea won the FA Youth Cup in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The highly-rated goalscorer has represented Scotland at youth level and has just completed a loan spell with Greek top-flight side OFI Crete.

Feruz, who arrived from Somalia in 2001, was spotted in Glasgow as a 10-year-old by Scottish Premiership side Celtic, who were instrumental in helping prevent his family being sent back to Somalia.

He became eligible to play for Scotland after having had five years of schooling in the country, although he could yet switch back to the land of his birth at senior level.

Feruz has previously said on Twitter that he would love to play in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Meanwhile, Cardiff manager Russell Slade is closing on Millwall left-back Scott Malone.

The Bluebirds have agreed a fee for the 23-year-old and the move is set to be completed within the next 48 hours.
