Anthony Stewart: Wycombe defender completes Crewe move

Stewart is yet to figure on the losing side in his two first-team appearances for Crewe Alexandra

Wycombe Wanderers defender Anthony Stewart has completed his move to Crewe Alexandra on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old turned down Wycombe's offer of a new deal last summer, but the Chairboys will receive a small fee having retained his registration.

Crewe have also extended the loans of Swansea centre-back Alan Tate and Manchester City full-back Greg Leigh.

Tate, 32 and Leigh, 20, will remain at the Alex until the end of the season.

Leigh has made 23 appearances since first arriving on loan from Premier League champions City in August.

Tate played six times when he first signed from Swansea before being out of the picture until his recall to the Alex first team just before Christmas.

After joining Crewe initially on loan, Stewart made a first-team breakthrough over Christmas, coming on as a substitute in the Boxing Day victory at Oldham after George Ray was dismissed.

He then impressed when he started the 1-1 draw against Preston North End two days later.

Meanwhile, Crewe boss Steve Davis is also hoping to tie up loan extensions for Stoke City midfielder Jamie Ness and Leeds United striker Nicky Ajose.

He has also revealed that his son, centre-half Harry Davis, is close to agreeing a new contract.

But the improving League One club have not yet offered a new deal to club captain Matt Tootle, whose current contract expires this summer.
