Paul Robinson scored 23 goals in 13 years with Millwall

Portsmouth have completed the signing of former Millwall defender Paul Robinson on an 18-month deal.

Robinson, 33, came through the Lions' youth ranks and went on to make 362 appearances, scoring the winning goal in the 2010 League One play-off final.

He has spent the first half of this season on loan at Pompey, making 25 appearances for the club.

"He had offers from other clubs and I am delighted he has chosen us," manager Andy Awford told BBC Radio Solent.

"Paul wanted to come, which is the most important thing.

"The fans have enjoyed watching him play. He is wholehearted and the type of player we want to recruit in the future.

"He looks after himself in the right way and the way he conducts himself around the place and on a pitch on a Saturday is how you should do it. He is a very good player and a very good character, which I feel is important."

Robinson, who scored his only goal for Portsmouth in a 1-1 draw with Mansfield in October, said he was delighted to seal the move.

"It's great to put pen to paper and secure my future here for the next 18 months," Robinson told the club website.

"I was out of contract at Millwall over the summer anyway and every year there are more and more free agents available.

"So it's nice to not have that uncertainty hanging over me. I can relax and concentrate on giving everything for Pompey.

"I'm looking forward to putting down some roots here and being part of something special with this club as we go from strength to strength."
