Motherwell and Elgin home games postponed

Structural damage to the stadium at Fir Park has resulted in Motherwell's Scottish Premiership match against Kilmarnock on Saturday being postponed.

A Motherwell statement said that recent heavy winds had made "several areas unsafe" in the East Stand.

The game has been rescheduled for Saturday 7 March at 15:00 GMT.

And a waterlogged pitch at Borough Briggs means Elgin City's League Two home match against Clyde has also been postponed.

Elgin's last four home games have been called off.

However, the team has played at Montrose and Annan in recent weeks, winning both games 3-2.

The East Stand also suffered storm damage in 2011, causing damage to signage

Elgin sit at the foot of the table, two points behind East Stirlingshire, though they have two games in hand.

The Scottish Professional Football League has yet to announce a rescheduled date for the League Two match.

At Fir Park, several aluminium facings have been blown off the side of the East Stand and continuing snow and high winds have hampered attempts to fix the problems.

Motherwell's safety manager, Alan Marshall, said: "Sadly, it would be impossible to not only secure the panels that are visibly hanging loose, but also to check all others in the same area in time for kick-off on Saturday.

"If another fell and hit someone, the consequences would be unthinkable."
