Coventry City have signed young midfielder Blair Turgott following his release by West Ham United.

Turgott, 20, who has had spells on loan at Bradford City, Colchester United, Rotherham United and Dagenham, has made just one Hammers first team appearance.

He is now contracted to remain with the Sky Blues until the end of the season.

Coventry have also completed a deal to take Middlesbrough striker Luke Williams, 21, on loan, also for the rest of the season.

The Sky Blues close to the edge

Coventry stand 19th in League One, three points above the relegation zone - with 18 games to go.

Williams spent two months out on loan at Coventry's League One rivals Scunthorpe United back in the autumn, scoring twice in six appearances.

The Middlesbrough-born player, who scored twice in seven games on loan at Hartlepool last season, has scored three goals in 42 appearances for Boro, 23 of them from the bench.

Turgott has scored 10 times for England at various youth levels, including three in six games for England Under-19s.

"He gives us a real threat on the wings for the rest of the season," said City boss Steven Pressley. "I hope he can use his time at the club to earn a long-term deal.

"Blair is a player who has demonstrated a great deal of potential during his career. We believe we can help him realise that potential."

Meanwhile, as well as Turgott, West Ham have released midfielder Matthias Fanimo, 21, who was on loan at Tranmere earlier in the season.
