Forward Bryan Ruiz will remain at Fulham after his proposed loan switch to Spanish side Levante fell through.

The Championship club said they had completed the necessary paperwork with Levante before the Spanish transfer window closed on Friday, 30 January.

However, governing body Fifa have not approved the 29-year-old's move.

"It's obviously very disappointing for the player and Levante. It's a situation that we can unfortunately do nothing about," said boss Kit Symons.

Costa Rica international Ruiz was set to join the La Liga side until the end of the season.

Ruiz, who joined the Whites for £10.6m from FC Twente in 2011, is out of contract at Craven Cottage in the summer.

He has scored five goals in 20 appearances for Fulham this season and Symons will now look to reintegrate him into the side.

"I'll speak to Bryan and would obviously like to have him back playing for us as soon as possible," said the Welshman.

"It's a tough knock for him but he's a great character and loves his football, so I know he'll just want to get on and play."
