Cardiff boss Slade unhappy with Sheffield Wednesday penalty

Cardiff boss Russell Slade criticised the penalty decision that saw them held to a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Kenwyne Jones' first-half header had seemed set to give the Bluebirds victory after four successive defeats.

But referee Kevin Wright awarded a penalty against Cardiff defender Matthew Connolly for a foul on Sergiu Bus, which Will Keane converted.

"On two counts really... it's a really poor decision from our point of view," Slade said.

"My centre-half's taken one in the face and he [referee Wright] may not have seen that, but really he [Connolly] has got his hands up but he didn't touch him.

"But our attitude was first class from the start, arguably we were the better side first half, creating a couple of openings, and our desire and character, our togetherness.

"We were under a lot of pressure for the last 10 or 15 minutes, but we stood firm and I was pleased with that."

Despite the draw ending a run of four defeats, Cardiff have only one Championship win in their last 10 matches and have now dropped to 15th in the table.

Cardiff are at home to Brighton on Tuesday night, with the visitors two points above the relegation places and six points behind the Bluebirds.
