West Brom avenged a 3-0 defeat they suffered at the Liberty Stadium earlier in the season

Garry Monk says Swansea City lacked intensity as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

Brown Ideye and Saido Berahino's second half goals secured victory for Tony Pulis's side, who moved four points clear of relegation zone.

Swansea created very little and Monk described his side's performance at the Hawthorns as "very poor."

"I think all night we didn't play with any tempo or any intensity," he said.

"The most disappointing bit is I spoke about that before the game, that's what we needed for our game to make sure we're on top.

"We didn't have the intensity, our passing wasn't sharp enough.

"Without that intensity and sharpness, we couldn't create anything. We needed to come here and move the ball around quickly, but we missed too many passes and took too many touches.

"Overall, the team wasn't good enough. We didn't perform at all. We didn't deserve anything from that game."

Despite Swansea's defeat at the Hawthorns, they remain ninth in the table with no Premier League games this weekend because of the FA Cup fifth round.

Swansea host Manchester United in their next game on 21 February and Monk wants to see an improvement against a team they beat on the opening day of the season at Old Trafford.

"We haven't got a game at the weekend so we've got an extended period to work on things, to make sure we perform 100% better for the next game, which is Manchester United," Monk added.

"It will be a tough game so we have to prepare right and make sure we don't make the same mistakes or we'll get punished again."
