Welling United climbed out of the Conference relegation zone on goal difference with a win against Wrexham.

Welling took the lead after just seven minutes as an unmarked Sam Berry headed in from a corner.

Dominic Vose doubled the hosts' advantage before the break as his shot went in off the crossbar.

Andy Bishop scored a late goal to give Wrexham hope, but the visitors suffered a first defeat since Carl Darlington took charge.

Welling's second successive win lifts them up to 20th place in the Conference table, with Alfreton dropping into the bottom four.

Wrexham caretaker manager Carl Darlington told BBC Radio Wales:

"We didn't get going at all in the first half. We were second best. I didn't recognise the team out there.

"These are the games we've got to get ourselves up for.

"We've got to make sure we win these and get three points against bottom-of-the-table teams."
