Luke Varney and Richard Chaplow join Ipswich Town on loan

Ipswich Town have signed Blackburn Rovers striker Luke Varney and Millwall midfielder Richard Chaplow on month-long loans, with a view to extending the deals until the end of the season.

Varney, 32, has not made a Championship start since joining Rovers permanently in the summer, but has played 11 times from the bench.

Chaplow, 30, has made 31 appearances for the Lions in all competitions.

Both players could make their debuts against Reading at the weekend.

Varney has arrived as potential cover for Noel Hunt, who could miss the rest of the season with a medial ligament injury.

Before his move to Ewood Park, Varney had scored eight times in 50 games in two years at Leeds, the club from which Ipswich signed Hunt - initially on loan - in November.

Varney started his professional career at Crewe, and left to join Charlton in a £2m move in 2007, before spells at Derby and Portsmouth.

Former Burnley, West Brom, and Southampton player Chaplow is out of contract at the Den in summer.

He signed for Millwall on a free transfer in the summer of 2013, after a month-long loan spell earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, Ipswich have also revealed that midfielder Teddy Bishop has signed a contract extension that will keep him with Town until 2018.

The 18-year-old has made 22 Championship appearances this season, scoring once.
