Cardiff's defeat to Wolves was their first loss in six Championship games

Cardiff City captain David Marshall insists things are looking up at the club despite the 1-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship.

The Bluebirds have however only won once in nine games but Marshall says the side are improving.

"I think the fans can see that there is a turning in performances," he said.

"The last six games have not been the problem, the problem has been the three months before that.

"A few months ago we weren't playing well and weren't picking up results either.

"In the last five or six games we have looked better and passed it a bit better and obviously we were unbeaten in five before [Wolves].

Owner Vincent Tan attended his first home game since Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League in 2014.

"Hopefully the fans can see the effort is a bit better."

Cardiff midfielder Peter Whittingham was sent off in the second-half against Wolves after two bookable offences, the second yellow card for a lunging challenge on Matt Doherty.

Whittingham, who had played every minute of every league game this season before his dismissal, will be suspended for Tuesday's trip to Rotherham.

"He will be a miss on Tuesday," Scotland goalkeeper Marshall said.

"Whitts is a stand out player but one thing we have got is a big squad and we won't be short of bodies in there.

"Being away from home we need to be defensively at it as well, which to be fair we have been the last three or four.

"We're in a position we're not used to at the club in the last five or six years. We have to try and win as many games as possible.

"We don't like talking about getting safe, it's not where we want to be, but unfortunately that's the position we are in."

Cardiff are 15th in the Championship, 10 points clear of the relegation places while next opponents Rotherham are fourth from bottom.
