York City 0-0 Carlisle United

York City and League Two relegation rivals Carlisle United shared a drab goalless draw at Bootham Crescent.

Charlie Wyke wasted the best first-half chance for Carlisle, who had lost five of their six previous contests, heading straight at home keeper Bobby Olejnik.

The home side survived an early second-half scare when Steven Rigg drove across the face of goal after bursting through the left channel.

But York were then twice denied in an incredible 74th-minute scramble.

Michael Coulson's shot was cleared off the line by visiting defender Sean O'Hanlon before Emile Sinclair was similarly denied by Troy Archibald-Henville.

Carlisle gave a full debut to midweek Bradford City loan signing Jason Kennedy, while fellow midfielder Paul Corry, signed on loan from Sheffield Wednesday, came on for the final half hour.

Both sides are now three points clear of trouble, with 23rd-placed Tranmere Rovers having lost at Northampton.

York City manager Russ Wilcox told BBC Radio York:

"It was nervy to say the least on a difficult pitch.

"Its not the way I want to play but the way the conditions are at the moment we've got to play more direct and get it up there a bit quicker.

"But we created enough to win. It was never going to be a terrific footballing game. It was two teams desperate for points."
