West Brom's Chris Brunt has requested a personal hearing after being charged with verbally abusing a match official.

The Football Association alleges that Brunt "used abusive and/or insulting words and/or insulting behaviour" after Albion's FA Cup defeat at Aston Villa.

A West Brom statement added: "The midfielder will be available until a date for the hearing is finalised."

Albion's Claudio Yacob and Villa's Jack Grealish were sent off before home fans invaded the pitch after the 2-0 win.

Both clubs are awaiting the results of FA and police investigations into crowd trouble at Villa Park, which also saw seats thrown from the West Brom section in the North Stand.

It was Villa's second victory over midlands rivals Albion inside a week, following a 2-1 victory in the Premier League.

The result put seven-time FA Cup winners Villa in the semi-final for the first time since 2010.
