Swansea City defender Angel Rangel has signed a one-year contract extension.

The 32-year-old Spanish defender's new deal will keep him at the Liberty Stadium until June 2017.

Rangel joined the Swans from Spanish club Terrassa in 2007, and was a key member of the teams which gained promotion to the Championship and Premier League.

"Playing for Swansea City for 10 years has always been a target for me," he told the club's website.

Rangel added he was keen to emulate Leon Britton, Alan Tate and current manager Garry Monk who all spent a decade at the club.

"Seeing the likes of Leon, Tatey and Garry reach 10 years' service for this club has been inspirational - they are great servants to the club.

"I arrived here not speaking any English, the club was in League One and without a training ground.

"Now I'm married to a Welsh girl and we have kids together, while on the pitch we've had two finals at Wembley, four years in the Premier League and have enjoyed playing in the Europa League."
