Tomasz Kuszczak: Wolves keeper enjoying life after spell in obscurity

Wolves goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak says he is determined to make the most of his chance at Molineux after a time "he wouldn't wish on anyone".

The Pole, 32, was released by Brighton last summer and did not play again until he replaced the injured Carl Ikeme in February, having joined Wolves in November.

"It was a new experience and I wouldn't wish it on anyone," said Kuszczak.

"All I wanted was to play football, I didn't know what was going to happen."

Kuszczak's 17-month stay with the Seagulls ended when he was released at the end of last season.

He then had to wait for six months before winning a short-term deal at Molineux.

"I pushed myself because I knew I needed to be ready - I didn't know for what at the time," Kuszczak added to BBC WM 95.6. "I was lucky, Wolves offered me a contract."

The former Manchester United and West Brom keeper then had to be patient as Ikeme is the club's number one.

But he got his chance when Ikeme suffered a broken metatarsal in training at the beginning of February.

"After a really tough first few months, when I wasn't playing, I worked hard and I'm playing now," said Kuszczak.

"It wasn't easy and I hope I never have that situation again in my career."

With Ikeme expected to be out for another month, Kuszczak has the chance to keep his place for the rest of the season and, with Saturday's game against the Seagulls fast approaching, he is relishing that prospect.

"I had a great time at Brighton over the last two seasons. But I'm here now in Wolverhampton and my focus is on getting three points.

"We want to be in the play-offs and I'm happy I'm playing now - it looks like I'm approaching good times."
