Newport County moved into the League Two play-off places after a 0-0 draw away at promotion rivals Plymouth Argyle.

The Pilgrims also gained ground on the top seven, moving up to eighth, just one point behind the Exiles.

Newport's Mark Byrne and Ismail Yakubu had first-half efforts on goal saved by Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick.

County keeper Joe Day was also in action, saving attempts by Argyle's Jason Banton and Bobby Reid.

Newport County manager Jimmy Dack told BBC Radio Wales:

"We set them out the same way we normally do but for whatever reason everyone has had a little blip.

"We've had two tough away games and we've been better on the road this season albeit the last two games.

"We didn't perform today and we didn't perform at Cambridge so we've got to dust ourselves down and get back winning when we get back home."
