Swansea 0-1 Liverpool: Garry Monk says 'opportunity missed' for Swans

Swansea City manager Garry Monk says his side deserved at least a point from Monday's 1-0 loss against Liverpool.

The Welsh side dominated the first half but could not find a way past Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool improved after the break and scored the winner when Jordi Amat's clearance deflected off Jordan Henderson into the net.

"I'd rather have conceded a goal with quality than a lucky goal like that," Monk told BBC Wales Sport.

"It's pretty much an opportunity missed for us in certain respects," added the Swansea boss.

"First-half we were superb, played some really good stuff, dominated, totally controlled it.

"The only disappointment was that we didn't score those couple of goals we deserved."

Swansea's five-man midfield controlled possession early on and striker Bafetimbi Gomis had a low shot pushed away by Mignolet.

The Belgian goalkeeper produced an even better save five minutes later, stretching to turn a curling effort from Gylfi Sigurdsson around the post.

In the second half Liverpool took control, with Philippe Coutinho and Joe Allen both forcing Lukasz Fabianski into saves before the breakthrough.

Daniel Sturridge also hit the Swansea post in injury time.

"That's the problem when you play a side with the quality of Liverpool," said Monk.

"There's always that danger second half that they come out and there would be a spell in the game that they were going to get their pressure.

"I think we definitely deserved a point out of the game but it wasn't meant to be."

The Reds remain fifth in the Premier League table but are just two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who they host on Sunday.

Ninth-placed Swansea travel to Tim Sherwood's in-form Aston Villa on Saturday.

"We have to get something from that game," said Monk.

"We don't want to go three games in a row without getting anything."
