Glasgow City have signed Scotland's record goalscorer, Julie Fleeting, after the 34-year-old left Scottish Premier League rivals Celtic.

The former Arsenal striker, who scored 116 international goals in 121 games, was with Celtic for two seasons.

"I'm looking forward to an exciting season with Glasgow City," she Fleeting, who is currently injured.

"We have such a talented group of players, many experienced and others young and enthusiastic."

Glasgow are preparing for Sunday's Women's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, but Fleeting will not be fit to face the French side.

"I'm hoping that I can shake off my recent injury and get back to enjoying football again," she said.

"Where better to do so than Glasgow City?"

Fleeting joined US side Washington Spirit in 2002 before spending nine years with Arsenal as they dominated the English league.

Following a few years out of the game for the birth of her two daughters, Fleeting returned to action with Celtic in the last two SWPL last seasons but chose not to re-sign for the 2015 season,

City head coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: "The signing of Julie adds to the attacking options and, of course, she brings experience which will help us both on and off the park.

"Her goalscoring record is very impressive and I hope she can get herself back to the level of fitness which will allow her to compete at the highest level again."
