Fraser Forster: Southampton keeper ruled out for season

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

Forster, 27, was hurt when clearing the ball in Saints' 2-0 win over Burnley on Saturday, forcing him out of England's squad to face Lithuania and Italy.

Southampton said a "longer-term" prediction on his return will be made following further assessment.

Forster joined Saints from Celtic in the summer and has played in all 30 of their Premier League games this season.

He has conceded 21 goals as part of the tightest defence in the division.

The former Newcastle player, capped three times by England, was carried off on Saturday before having surgery on his left patellar tendon.

Forster was replaced by Kelvin Davis, who was making his first appearance of the season.

The 38-year-old is now expected to start against Everton on 4 April, with either Paulo Gazzaniga, 23, or Cody Cropper, 22, on the bench.
