Tottenham defender Danny Rose has withdrawn from the England squad to face Lithuania and Italy due to injury.

The uncapped left-back, 24, replaced Luke Shaw when the Manchester United defender suffered a hamstring injury.

But Spurs said "hip and hamstring injuries," have ended his involvement.

Goalkeeper Fraser Forster, striker Daniel Sturridge and midfielder Adam Lallana have also withdrawn from Friday's European Championship qualifier with Lithuania at Wembley.

QPR goalkeeper Rob Green and Jack Butland of Stoke City were called up to replace Southampton's Forster, while Tottenham's Ryan Mason replaced Liverpool's Lallana.

Roy Hodgson has not called up a replacement for Rose, who has been capped 29 times at under-21 level and has played 29 times for Tottenham this season.

His withdrawal leaves Everton's Leighton Baines and Arsenal's Kieran Gibbs as the two recognised left-back options for the visit of Lithuania and friendly match in Turin on 31 March.

England go into the fixtures with four wins from four matches in Group E and a six-point cushion on Slovenia who sit second.
