Scotland v Gibraltar: Strachan wants more Scots dominance

Gordon Strachan and Scott Brown expect patience to be needed against Gibraltar

Coach Gordon Strachan wants Scotland to replicate the dominance they enjoyed against Northern Ireland in Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Gibraltar.

The Scots secured a 1-0 victory at Hampden in Wednesday's friendly, Christophe Berra scoring late on.

"To get nine shots on target and none against was good," said Strachan.

"If we do that tomorrow - we'll try and get more obviously - and try and keep the other team from having attempts at goal, that'll be great."

Scotland go into the match with Gibraltar level on points with second-place Germany and fourth-place Republic of Ireland.

Poland, who face the Irish in Dublin on Sunday, are three points clear at the top of section.

Gibraltar prop up the group with no points having lost all four games so far.

"I've seen enough of [Gibraltar] on the video analysis," Strachan added. "That's what we do with most sides.

"The same time has been spent on Gibraltar as with Germany or Republic of Ireland.

"What I liked about Wednesday was the way we started the game, I thought it was terrific

"We could've been a few goals ahead in half-an-hour. For a friendly game, the attitude of the players was great.

"Unfortunately they came up against some stout defending and some great goalkeeping.

"It's a different system tomorrow, it's a different set of players. It's another crowd who we have to satisfy.

"Up until now we've dealt with it very well and I expect us to do the same tomorrow."

Scotland secured a narrow win over Northern Ireland on Wednesday

Strachan and midfielder Scott Brown agreed "patience" might be needed against Gibraltar and indicated the same might be needed from the home crowd.

And Brown says playing for Celtic is similar to Scotland playing Gibraltar, because of the pressure to win.

"We need to perform, we need to start well," said the 29-year-old.

"We need to create chances like we've been doing in the last five or six games and we've got to play at the tempo we've been playing at as well.

"It's going to be difficult if they defend for the whole game. We've got to take our chances when they come. We've got to be confident on the ball, try to create chances. We've got people there that can score goals.

"We've got to show that we want it."
