Paris St-Germain 5-0 Glasgow City: City bow out to classy French

Glasgow City's European dream ended in defeat as Paris St-Germain showed their class in the Women's Champions League quarter-final.

City had showed remarkable resilience at the vast Parc des Princes in the first half, but were undone through Suzanne Lappin's own goal.

Marie-Laure Delie hit a second half double either side of Sabrina Delannoy's penalty.

And Kenza Dali made it 5-0 with another late penalty after constant pressure.

But the 7-0 aggregate scoreline should not reflect badly on Eddie Wolecki Black's side who showed they are improving on this stage year after year.

It was always likely to be a backs-to-the-wall performance, and Fatmire Alushi and Delie both forced early saves from goalkeeper Lee Alexander as the home side started on the front foot.

The pressure was taking its toll and the French side finally found the net through an unfortunate own goal on 25 minutes.

Delie battled her way past Cheryl McCulloch before lashing a shot across the six-yard box that rebounded off the legs of the unlucky Lappin and into the net.

McCulloch deflected Kheira Hamraoui's shot and Josephine Henning sent a long-range effort wide as City began to repel the hosts' attacks well.

Captain Delannoy whistled another drive wide as Alexander was largely untroubled in the City goal.

That was something the home side were determined to change at the start of the second half and Alexander had to parry away Alushi's shot.

In the aftermath Shirley Cruz Trana was fortunate to only receive a booking after lashing out at both Emma Black and Rhonda Jones, having originally caught Black with her studs as she chased the rebound.

PSG were now finding more space in behind City's defence and when Alushi was left alone in the box she was able to pick out Delie who slid the ball over the line to double the lead.

City needed some inspiration in the opposing half and they found it when Fiona Brown went on a mazy run from the halfway line into the box, and only an excellent challenge from Henning denied her as she saw a sight of goal.

The Scots were being made to work harder than they had at any other stage over the two legs and Cruz's header was well saved, but a minute later Black brought her down inside the area to concede a penalty, which Delannoy dispatched.

City could no longer stop the flow of traffic towards their goal as PSG continued to show their class, and Delannoy raced to the byline to pick out Delie for her second.

A second penalty was conceded when McCulloch tired to hold off Kosovare Asllani, and when that failed her swipe at the substitute's legs gave the referee no option but to point to the spot.

Dali sent Alexander the wrong way and a minute later it could have been six when Asslani lobbed the goalkeeper, but this time fortune shone on City as it was called offside.
