Cardiff City manager Russell Slade says striker Kenwyne Jones still has a future at the club despite his loan move to Championship leaders Bournemouth.

Jones has joined the promotion-chasing Cherries until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old is Cardiff's top scorer this term, but Slade says he has no plans to get rid of the forward.

"Kenwyne is not on a hit list to leave the football club," Slade told the BBC Sport Wales programme.

Jones joined Cardiff as part of a swap deal which saw Peter Odemwingie move to Stoke in January 2014.

Trinidad and Tobago international Jones scored 13 goals in 36 appearances for Cardiff, before swapping the Championship's mid-table for the tight title race.

Jones is the latest first team player to leave the Welsh capital on a loan deal.

Defender Matthew Connolly joined Watford until the end of the season in March as Slade continues to cut down the wage bill.

The former Leyton Orient boss admits some of the highest earners at the club may be among those to leave at the end of the season.

"Clearly if you've got one or two big earners it helps in terms of reducing that deficit," said Slade.

"The owner is still ploughing in an a lot of money every single month and obviously that can't go on relentlessly.

"So we do need to redress it, we are doing that, we have done that in the January [transfer] window.

"There's still a little bit more work to be done, but that doesn't mean we have to go selling every single player."

Cardiff City Stadium's new £12m Ninian Stand extension, built less than a year ago, will be temporarily closed for club matches next season, due to poor season ticket sales.

"The only thing that will bring the fans back in the end is having a team that's going to be relatively successful," said Slade.

"I think the genuine fans have seen improvement... and if they can see a bit more progression between now and the end of the season... and get off to a good start next season I'm sure those fans will come back."

Cardiff City, who are 14th in the table, are looking to win their fourth league away match in row when they travel to 19th placed Reading on Saturday.

"I think it will be a tight game but I do think there'll be goals and hopefully we can keep our run going away from home."
