Women's Super League: Draw disappoints Doncaster and Everton

Everton Ladies manager Andy Spence wants his side to sharpen up their finishing

Doncaster Rovers Belles manager Glen Harris and Everton counterpart Andy Spence were both frustrated after their 1-1 draw in Women's Super League 2.

"It's disappointing we dropped two points. We didn't play to the standards we've set ourselves.

"We were a little bit sloppy at the start of the second half," said Harris.

"We created a number of chances and maybe if we'd been better with our finish, we might have won the game," Spence told BBC Sport.

Winger Sue Smith put Belles in front in the 14th minute, scoring directly from a corner for the second match in a row.

Doncaster goalkeeper Nicola Hobbs saved a Michelle Hinnigan penalty before Kelly Jones scored Everton's equaliser early in the second half.

Both sides remain unbeaten in WSL2, with Doncaster now one point clear at the top of the table.

Everton are fourth after one victory and three draws, but Spence said he had hoped his side would have had a stronger start to the season.

"I'll be disappointed with the result but the over riding feeling is we've got a top performance," he said.

"Of course we'd want to be higher with more points. At this stage we didn't want to have three draws, to be honest.

"If we play like that, we'll be right in the mix at the end of the season, I've got no doubts".

Belles boss Harris is content with his side's position after their opening four matches as they push for promotion back to WSL1.

"From a positive point of view, we've got a point away at Everton, who are one of the top teams," he said.

"We've always said is that if we're in the top two or three come the (international) break, we think we can push on."
