Marc Tierney: Bolton full-back forced to retire aged 29
- Published
Bolton Wanderers full-back Marc Tierney has announced his retirement aged 29 because of an ankle injury.
Tierney suffered a broken bone and ligament damage during a game against Yeovil in 2013 and has since undergone four operations.
He played in the Premier League for Norwich and also had spells with Oldham, Shrewsbury and Colchester.
"It's obviously very disappointing, but I've got some great memories from my time as a player," said Tierney., external
"The club have been kind enough to allow me to still come in for physio, so my treatment is still ongoing.
"I want to get to the point where it doesn't affect me in my normal life - a recreational ankle if you will."
