Gary Mills' Gateshead side missed out on the Conference play-offs this season

Gateshead boss Gary Mills will decide on his future "in the next few days" after holding talks with Conference rivals Wrexham about the vacant manager's job at the Racecourse Ground.

There has also been an approach by a League club, which the BBC understands to be Tranmere, to speak with Mills.

"I have to now decide what's right for me," Mills told BBC Newcastle.

He will be in charge for Gateshead's final game of the season, at Barnet on Saturday.

Mills added: "I'm happy here and it [Wrexham's approach] has come out of the blue. They want me to go there, There will be talking and I'll make a decision.

"The chairman [Graham Wood] gave me permission to speak with them. Whichever decision I make it's a tough one."

Wrexham sacked manager Kevin Wilkin after their FA Trophy final defeat by North Ferriby United last month.

Former York City boss Mills enjoyed a remarkable first season with Gateshead, leading the club to a Wembley Conference play-off final defeat by Cambridge.

Although unable to repeat those feats, as the Tynesiders will finish outside the play-off places this season, Mills' side can have a big say in the destination of the Conference title, with their final match coming at promotion hopefuls Barnet.

Martin Allen's side lead Bristol Rovers by a point at the top and Mills wants his players to put uncertainty over his future to one side.

"We've got a big game and we've got to play for our professionalism," Mills said.

"We owe it to every player and supporter of Bristol Rovers to go and do our jobs properly."
