Swansea City: Garry Monk 'proud' of Premier League points record

Swansea City manager Garry Monk says he is "extremely proud" after his side broke their Premier League points record tally with victory at Newcastle.

The Welsh side came from 1-0 down to win 3-2 thanks to goals from Nelson Oliveira, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jack Cork to win at St James' Park.

It took them three points above their previous highest total in the Premier League, set in the 2011-12 season.

"It's very satisfying. I'm extremely proud of the players," said Monk.

"I knew at the start of the season (that) if we committed to the work, and I got the players to commit that, we could achieve something special this season.

"So we should be extremely proud of it [the record]."

Swansea's highest-ever finish in the Premier League is ninth, in season 2012-2013.

The Swans have already got more points this season than they have in their previous three seasons in the Premier League.

Monk's side are eighth in the table, three points above ninth-placed Stoke City, who they face at home on Saturday 2 May.

The 36-year-old is in his first full season as a manager, having replaced Michael Laudrup in February 2014, and is hungry to finish the season strongly.

"I want more. I'll always push for more [points]," said Monk.

"My job now is to make sure we finish the season with some more wins if possible and more points.

"There's no point in just beating the record. You want to try and surpass it and make it difficult for anyone to catch or for us to surpass it the following season."
