Manager Jamie Sherwood believes Yeovil Town Ladies are capable of challenging for promotion to the top flight if they play at their peak every week.

Yeovil sit third in the Women's Super League Two table after five games, just one point adrift of Reading, who are in the second and final promotion place.

They have won their last three games, scoring 11 goals and conceding twice.

"We can challenge, but we have to be at the best of our ability for every game for us to do that," Sherwood said.

"We are a small club with a small budget and smaller squad than most, but we definitely have the ability to challenge any team on any given day."

The Glovers finished fifth in the first season of WSL 2 last term, 25 point adrift of Sunderland, who were promoted as champions.

The Somerset club have strengthened this season with England defender Corinne Yorston moving from Bristol Academy to join Ann-Marie Heatherson, midfielder Stephanie Williams and defenders Alys Hinchcliffe and Ellie Isaac as new arrivals at Sherborne.

Hinchcliffe, Heatherson and Yorston have each netted three league goals so far this season.

"All five of them have settled in nicely," Sherwood told BBC Somerset.

Yeovil next travel to The Den on Saturday to face Millwall, who remain unbeaten in the league this season with one win and four draws, before facing fourth-placed Everton, another unbeaten side that are equal on point with the Glovers.
