Benik Afobe: Wolves expect star striker to stay at Molineux

Benik Afobe scored 19 goals on loan at MK Dons before joining Wolves in January

Wolves expect prolific striker Benik Afobe to stay with the club for another Championship campaign next season.

The 22-year-old scored 32 goals this season - 19 during a loan spell with Mk Dons and a further 13 after joining Wolves as they just fell short of the Championship play-off places.

It has led to speculation about the former Arsenal youngster's future.

But chief executive Jez Moxey told BBC WM 95.6: "It's a question we don't need to address. We haven't had any offers."

Afobe has averaged more than a goal every other Championship game since his move to Molineux on top of his 10 League One strikes, plus nine more in cup matches while on loan from Arsenal to MK Dons for the first half of the campaign.

Moxey added: "He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract when he came in January and he's very happy here.

"He has done well, he wants to improve and play in the Premier League and he has the right platform to do that here.

"It's a question of keeping him happy and locked into what we're trying to do here. I expect him to still be leading the line come August."

Fellow forward Bakary Sako is however expected to move on after three years at Wolves.

"He's a very good individual and a very good team player, but he's got opportunities to play in the Premier League," said head coach Kenny Jackett.

"Sako has been a fine servant to the club," added Moxey.

"Two or three times we could have let him go and made some money on him, but he stayed and stuck to his contract."
