Tom Pope: Port Vale striker in talks with Doncaster Rovers

Port Vale striker Tom Pope is set to hold talks over a move to League One rivals Doncaster Rovers within the next few days, BBC Radio Stoke has learned.

The 29-year-old, who is out of contract in June, has received interest from several clubs but has not ruled out staying with the Valiants.

Pope has made 184 appearances for Vale since signing from Rotherham in 2011 after an initial four-month loan spell.

"There has been interest from quite a few clubs," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"With the season only just finishing, it's very early days."

Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite had previously hinted that the former Crewe forward may have to take a pay cut to stay with the club.

"Everybody knows that I'd love to stay at the club and I've got no desire to leave," Pope said.

"But obviously I'll be 30 by the time the season starts and I've probably got four or five more years left in professional football.

"I've got to look after my family, and if the deal on the table's nowhere near what anybody else is offering then I'll have to weigh up my options."
