Coventry City: Tony Mowbray releases eight Sky Blues players

Coventry City have released eight players following Tony Mowbray's decision to remain as Sky Blues boss.

Strikers Frank Nouble, Shaun Miller, Simeon Jackson and Blair Turgott have been allowed to leave.

Midfielders Al Bangura and Adam Barton, centre-half Andy Webster and full-back Danny Pugh have also been let go.

The Sky Blues have offered new deals to striker Marcus Tudgay, defender Reda Johnson, midfielder Ivor Lawton and left-back Chris Stokes.

And the club will also take up the one-year option on defender Jordan Willis's contract.

Johnson, who started last season as Coventry captain, had an option in his contract for a second year. As with Tudgay, also signed last July on a one-year deal, he suffered an injury-hit season, with both players starting less than half the Sky Blues' League One matches.

Stokes, a free agent after being released by Forest Green, originally arrived at the Ricoh Arena in February on loan until the end of the season - two days before previous City boss Steve Pressley was sacked.

Six of the players released were signed by Pressley, four of them last summer, the longest-serving being Barton, who was brought in by Andy Thorn in August 2012.

Mowbray confirmed late on Monday night that he would stay on as Sky Blues manager, on a two-year contract.
