Wigan Athletic have signed Walsall goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell on a three-year contract to run from 1 July.

The 26-year-old had been offered a two-year deal to stay with the Saddlers.

The former Sheffield Wednesday, Grimsby, Macclesfield, Chesterfield and Stockport keeper managed 21 clean sheets in 37 appearances this season.

"I'm delighted Richard has agreed to join us. He was definitely one of the best keepers in League One last season," said Wigan boss Gary Caldwell.

"There were a number of clubs chasing his signature and we had to move quickly to get him because we had identified him as a potential target."

He joins former Blackpool midfielder David Perkins in moving to the Latics as they prepare for League One next season following relegation.
