Stoke City did not give Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard quite the send-off he was hoping for in his final game

Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron says Sunday's 6-1 win over Liverpool serves as a warning as to just what the Potters are capable of next season.

The club's biggest win since moving to the Britannia Stadium capped a second successive ninth-placed finish in the Premier League for Mark Hughes' side.

"Next year we're looking to push on for Europa League and further," he said.

"We're proving every year that we get better and better," added Cameron, 29, who has signed a new three-year deal.

"You have your ups and downs with injuries and things but what a way to go out and end the season, beating Liverpool 6-1. You can walk off the field with a big smile on your face," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

After matching last season's ninth place in their first season under Hughes, Stoke have capped that by setting a new Premier League best points total for the club of 54.

And, on the day he made his 99th Premier League appearance for the club, United States international Cameron, signed by Tony Pulis from MLS side Houston Dynamo in 2012, committed himself to the Britannia Stadium until the summer of 2018.

Cameron, whose existing contract was not set to expire for a further 12 months, added: "It was a long negotiating process, but I'm proud to play for Stoke City and I'm happy to do so for three more years.

"Days like that are hard to forget. It was a great feeling and the crowd were amazing, but they've been like that all year."
