Daniela Montoya's third international goal secured Colombia a point

Mexico and Colombia - England's remaining Group F opponents - shared an entertaining draw in their own Women's World Cup opener.

Veronica Perez's speculative shot gave Mexico the lead but Daniela Montoya levelled with eight minutes left.

England lost 1-0 to France and are bottom of the table after one game and only the top two are sure of a place in the last 16.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Spain were held to a draw by Costa Rica in Group E.

Vicky Losada gave Spain the lead as she controlled Sonia Bermudez's pass and spun past defender Diana Saenz in one movement, before powering home a low finish in the 13th minute.

But their advantage lasted only a minute with Raquel Rodriguez steering home a side-foot shot from Lixy Rodriguez's precise cut-back.

Costa Rica, ranked 23 places below their opponents, then hung on under severe pressure for a point on their Women's World Cup debut.

After England suffered defeat in a cagey encounter earlier in the day, Colombia entertained Moncton Stadium with a spirited comeback.

They had fallen behind when 21-year-old goalkeeper Stefany Castano, winning only her eighth international cap, was caught out by Perez's curling delivery.

Yoreli Rincon's free-kick against the post almost restored parity, but, with both sides committed to attack, Colombia could have been further behind had Charlyn Corral's poke past Castano not been ruled out.

But Montoya's shot, off the underside of the crossbar and in from 25 yards, was deserving of a point.

Brazil and South Korea - the two teams yet to play a match at the tournament - meet in their Group E match later on Tuesday.
