Plymouth Argyle striker Reuben Reid will miss the start of pre-season training after undergoing foot surgery.

The 26-year-old, who has scored 41 goals in the last two seasons, had been hampered by the injury towards the end of last season.

"He'll not be ready for the start of pre-season," said newly-appointed Plymouth Argyle manager Derek Adams.

"He'll be recovering from the foot operation and unable to train with the players at that time," he added.

But Adams says the former Yeovil, Rotherham and West Bromwich Albion forward can improve on his form since moving back to Home Park in 2013.

"He's scored a lot of goals, he's had a good career so far, I think he can do even better with his career, he's got the potential to do that," he said.

"We're looking to help him on the coaching field and improve him and help him to move forward."
